We had a dog that was Named Eugine Francis in which we had taken in from the pound (Danbury's pound; my mom is ACO).
Sadly we could not keep her in the fence. She would climb out it, crawl out of it, dig out of it, etc. etc.
So, we aggreed that maybe the local SPCA would find her a nicer and better home.
And then, but two weeks later, we got news of her whereabouts.
She had lest found a nice, new warm home, and more found her place in a trash bag somewhere in houston.
Yeah.
Lake Jackson SPCA had put her down for the following.
Being over the age limit
Having mange (CUREABLE!)
And not being a pure-breed (that wasn't what they said, but they put down most of the mutts anyways.)
And so /her/ story ends with a sad and terrible thing. And this is what most SPCA's in Texas do.
They put down 95% of the dogs and more cats.
They put down kittens, they put down old cats, they put down sick cats (I can understand sick cats, though. It's proven that cats can spread disease much like the dreaded rodents).
But, they also put down Puppies (too young to go out for adoption), older dogs (older than three, I believe), Mutts, and dogs with TREATABLE CONDITIONS...
I, myself, being only but sixteen, am working currently on saving my money to be able to open a shelter here in my home town with the no kill policy. My organization will be a non-profit organization and if Broder (A dog in the pound, right now) and Whitey (our first cruelty case) are still in the pound when I move, than i'm adopting them and making them my mascots. Whitey's story will be posted when we go to court against his old owners. =)
